Amazing Snowflake Fractals

LOOK AT THESE SNOWFLAKES!!! Why do we as humans LOVE how these things look??? THEY’RE AMAZING! They’re beautiful and symmetrical and NATURE MADE THEM! I think at some level, we all naturally have a built in love for patterns (we are all a pattern, anyway!). We are always looking for the patterns in nature, how things repeat, how they are designed. This is the basis of a lot of sciences – math, biology, physics. We like to fit things together, like a puzzle, and see how things work. We only study these things because we know that there is a pattern, and that we can figure out that pattern if we have the right tools. The only tool it took to see these snowflakes is a camera, BUT to get the right technique to capture these images I’m sure was perfected by the photographer through repetition. Another repeating pattern, but this time with actions – we ALWAYS repeat things. In fact, it’s really the only way that we as humans learn things.

Yes, these snowflakes are beautiful, because they’re made up of a repeating pattern. If you think these snowflakes are beautiful because of their patterns, why wouldn’t you think that learning things through the pattern of repetition is beautiful, too? I think it’s amazing how, no matter how many times we repeat something, it’s never quite the same as before. If you’ve been repeating an action in recent times, you KNOW you’ll be able to repeat it again and again, getting better and better, because you’ve already done it before. Some patterns are easier to remember (“it’s like riding a bike”), but some are more difficult and take practice (do you remember that French you learned in high school? Nope, me neither). But, if you practice something enough, you CAN do it, and that’s amazing. We all have our certain skills and strong suits, which usually coincide with what we ENJOY doing. If you do what makes you happy or something that you enjoy, it just FEELS right! Keep repeating the patterns that feel right to you, and you really can’t go wrong.

Let’s come back to the snowflakes. These beautiful patterns, none of which are the same, are awesome. We see the beauty in this crystalized water droplet, because of it’s concentric circles and repeating lines that make a beautiful symmetrical fractal design. If you can see the beauty in these snowflakes, try to see the beauty in every instance of patterns or repetition. I know sometimes repetition can feel tedious or annoying at first … but as you keep doing it, keep repeating it, you can find comfort in the patterns of your every day life. Actually, we hate change, probably because we love patterns and repetition so much. Embrace the patterns in your every day life and let the repetition take you for life’s ride!

Mind Over Matter

We as humans are amazing. We create so much in this world, develop new technologies, build the tallest buildings, design the most advanced computers. We do all these things in the physical world, but what affect does our consciousness have on the world? I’m sure you agree that we couldn’t create anything without our minds, without being able to think, rationalize, problem solve. However, I think people often do more harm than good with their thoughts in today’s world. How many people have “depression” or “anxiety” today? I’m sure we have ALL struggled with these emotions at some point in time. But, I’m going to tell you something that might set you free.

You control your mind. In fact, it’s probably the only thing that we CAN control in the world. These external forces, the physical world, at the fundamental level are an illusion. We now know through science that all matter is made up of tiny atoms. These atoms are buzzing and moving around constantly and we have no control over them… or do we? Think about the placebo effect – people think they are taking medicine, and some people actually RECOVER from their illnesses after taking placebos! So, the brain or thought that you are taking medicine IS the medicine. How can this be?

I want everyone reading this to try something out today. Think about beauty and happiness ONLY. When you look at something, anything – a tree, another person, a flower, a mountain, the stars, even a rotten piece of fruit (the fractal seeds are in there!) – think about how amazing it is. How amazing it is that we are all here, living together, connected through our minds. When you feel a negative thought creeping in, let go of it. What do you need, at a fundamental level? You don’t need money, you know you’ve survived without it before. You don’t need that expensive bottle of wine at the bar or that name brand T-shirt. What you need is water, food, love. And you have all those things, right here, and you know it. This world was designed for us to enjoy! Please enjoy it, if not for me, then for yourself! The more positive energy you project, the more that will come back to you, I guarantee you. Think about your problems… now realize why they aren’t problems, there are just LIFE! And LIFE is AMAZING!

The Patterns of Nature

Our natural world is truly AMAZING!  If you don’t agree, take a look at this Wikipedia page about “Patterns in Nature.”  I am seriously in awe.  I feel like everything in life is based off of some pattern, yet everything is such a unique instance of any pattern that ever happened before.  The truth is, nature is both always and never unique at the same time. I can’t think of an organism, rock, person, or plant that doesn’t have another one that looks just like it … but I also can’t think of anything that has an exact match or copy of it.  The world we live in is made up of a bunch of repeating parts and patterns, and each one is different!  To me, that is awesome.  And I hope it is to you, too.

Welcome to my new blog, Natural Patterns.  I’m going to try and point out all of the patterns that we find in our every day lives, past, present, and future.  I’m also going to connect this concept to the bigger picture that we have no control over these repeating patterns – it is a fact of life.  When you learn to accept, and even admire, the natural cycle, fluctuations, and fractal patterns in life, you can set yourself free.  In the end, I hope that instead of trying to control your life and others, realize that we are all on this crazy ride together and the best way to live it is to enjoy it while it lasts – because in the end, it is infinite!
